There’s something about the word harmony that instantly evokes peace—within ourselves, in our homes, and out in the world. Whether it’s the sound of waves lapping at the shoreline, a favorite song from years past (yes, the Beach Boys’ iconic hit “Good Vibrations” instantly comes to mind), or that rare moment when everything feels aligned, it’s a feeling we all crave.

This month’s theme, Harmonious Living, explores how we can create more balance in our daily lives. We look at ways to realign with our true selves, harness the healing power of sound, design mindful workouts, and bring intention into our spaces. Harmony isn’t just a goal—it should be a daily practice.

For me, harmonious living always includes heading to the beach! Pensacola Beach is my go-to spot when I need to unwind, reset and renew. There I find friends, laughter, adventure and solace. This “just because” tradition started in the mid-90s when my sister and I made our first trip to the Blue Angels air show the weekend after July 4th. Each year, we made new friends, reconnected with old ones, danced, ate great food and simply relaxed. Years later, I met my husband on Pensacola Beach, got engaged there, and honeymooned in the Virgin Islands—always a tropical choice when it comes to travel. To this day, we return to Pensacola Beach when we want to celebrate, decompress or reflect on a big decision. It’s truly a haven for the mind, body and soul.

Living in harmony also means surrounding ourselves with people and places that support our well-being. I’m grateful for the many local businesses that make up our Natural Awakenings Gulf Coast family—from health food stores and wellness centers to holistic practitioners and green businesses. Our advertisers are true partners in the mission to help you live more naturally and intentionally. For more than 30 years, this magazine has connected readers with trusted resources, and that tradition continues—stronger than ever.

As summer slowly winds down, may you find new ways to nurture harmony in body, mind, spirit and space.

With gratitude,

Michelle Smith
