Both Coastal Alabama Farmers and Fishermens Market (CAFFM) and America have big milestones coming up this summer and both will be celebrated during the Corn Festival to be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 20 at the Foley-based market.

“America is recognizing its semi-quincentennial, and the Corn Festival is recognizing its 10-year anniversary. Combining the two was too good an opportunity to pass up,” says CAFFM Market Manager Alescia Forland.

“We are so excited to celebrate a decade of what has become our cornerstone event,” adds Forland. “The best part is we get to honor the land we love, which has quite literally given us so much.”

The event will still feature the Corny Dad Cook-Off. The contest consists of three cooks, who are also dads, creating a signature dish featuring corn. The public gets to taste each one and vote for their favorite. Each voting ticket comes with a miniature American flag.

The corn-eating contest will have a fun twist. Contestants will eat two ears of white corn, five slices of red watermelon and a cup of blueberries. Whoever eats all their food the fastest wins. This year, a children’s division has been added so younger participants can join in.

Vendors will be getting in on the patriotic action, too. They have been tasked with decorating their stalls. Foley Mayor Ralph Hellmich will judge the stalls and award a trophy to the best one.
